Preschool & Recreational Programs
Discover the joy of learning gymnastics and the fundamentals of movement at the Nanaimo Gymnastics School.
Gymnastics is a fundamental sport that develops a wide variety of movement skills in children, including landings, swinging, balance, rotations, coordination, springing, and locomotion. The IOC recognizes Gymnastics as one of the three foundation sports that develops physical literacy, along with swimming and track and field. Gymnastics teaches the fundamentals of physical and motor abilities that can be transferred to any sport throughout life.
Gymnastics has cognitive benefits, as there is a strong correlation between physical literacy and mental health and development. So not only does gymnastics develop your body, it helps develop your brain.

NGS GOALS Program
The Nanaimo Gymnastics School GOALS Program is a comprehensive program that helps athletes develop the physical foundation and skills they need to succeed in gymnastics and other sports. The program is designed for athletes of all ages and skill levels, and includes Benchmark Skills, Supporting Skills, and Supplemental Skills. Athletes begin working on the GOALS program in Preschool classes and continue progressing through the levels as they move into Recreational Programs.

GOALS Levels:
Parent and Tot: Levels 1-3
Preschool: Levels 1-5
Recreational: Levels 1-10

Preschool Classes
Join us for our popular preschool classes ages 18 months to 5 years. Structured classes help develop physical literacy in your little ones; skills that will be beneficial throughout life!
Each class starts with a warm-up game and stretch, followed by rotations on the gymnastics apparatus. Learn balance, coordination, build strength and confidence - all while having a lot of fun!

Recreational Classes
Our structured recreational classes teach athletes ages 5 and above technical skills on each women's artistic gymnastics apparatus. Using our very own certification program, athletes progress and learn gymnastics skills safely and with confidence, getting report cards and badges as they master levels.
Classes begin with a group warm-up and stretch, followed by time on each apparatus (trampoline too!) and some conditioning to build the body for skills required in each level.

Special Needs Programs
Nanaimo Gymnastics works to remove barriers to participation for individuals with special needs. With adaptive programs, small ratio or one-on-one classes, and specialized equipment, we can create a bespoke program that supports physiological, neurological and social outcomes for each athlete.
Our coaching staff are National Coaching Certification Program Level 3 coaches with over 20 years coaching experience who love coaching and appreciate the challenges of developing individual programs for Special Needs.
Children we have worked with have had great results including; increased fitness, decreased anxiety and fears, improved self esteem, and improved social behaviours, speech and communication. Some special needs we have worked with include autism, Down syndrome, ADHD, FAS, amputees, hearing or sight impairments, cystic fibrosis, and cerebral palsy.
