Current Board of Directors
I have been involved in the sport of gymnastics in many aspects over the past 25 years. I was a US National Team member for 6 years, a full scholarship athlete at Michigan State University and I have competed all over the world. I was the Head Coach of a successful gymnastics club and now I am a parent of two young gymnasts who love their gymnastics school. I am proud to serve on the NGS Board for the first time. I have vast experience in what it takes to run a non-profit gymnastics organization and I look forward to serving our members with the possible service. I believe that all athletes and coaches who are willing to dedicate themselves to this sport deserve a program which offers a positive, productive environment. As a board member, my goal is to bring the coaching staff and Board together to create a cohesive team, striving towards shared goals that will move this club forward to its maximum potential.
My family and I joined NGS in 2013. I was working as a sound engineer for 20 years before changing career paths to accounting. I am currently a student with Chartered Professional Accountants. I am relatively new to being a board member, although I have been involved with many groups in the audio world for many years, including the executive committee for Audio Engineering Society, Vancouver branch. Currently, I have a daughter in the competitive program. I believe it is very important to support the coaches and staff at NGS as much as we can. I feel it is equally important to help give the athletes and families a sense of involvement in the Nanaimo Gymnastics School. If the families are invested in their school and in the community at large, the boundaries of success in the athletes are limitless.
I am a relatively new parent to NGS. I have a daughter in the competitive program and my youngest son is involved in Parkour. I have experience working on municipal, crown corporation and union boards and committees. I hope to strengthen transparency and accountability by encouraging better communication between athletes, parents, staff and the Board of Directors. By building a culture that is fair, open and supportive, I believe that each athlete will excel.
I am the proud parent of a child in the recreational program for the pas year. I have been involved with the business community in Nanaimo for the past 11 years and have previous experience serving for a number of local non-profit organizations including the Rotary Club of Nanaimo, the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. I have also been involved with organized sports and arts as a successful professional dance competitor and instructor for 10 years before my move to BC to start a career in financial planning.
Director at Large
I’ve been passionate about the sport of gymnastics from a young age. Growing up, I was a competitive gymnast for a number of years. I learned a lot of key lessons throughout my time in the sport including commitment, discipline and tenacity. I am the proud parent of three young gymnasts who share my passion for the sport. I’m excited to be a part of the board, and hope to be able to contribute in a positive way to our club.
